Who Should Get CCSP

CCSP is designed for mid-to-senior security professionals who are already working in cloud environments or moving toward cloud security leadership. Ideal candidates:

• Security architects and engineers designing cloud environments or reviewing cloud architecture
• Information security managers overseeing cloud GRC programs
• Security consultants advising clients on cloud security strategy
• CISO track professionals who need cloud governance credibility

CCSP is not an entry-level certification. If you’re early in your security career, consider CompTIA Security+ or SSCP first. CCSP is for professionals who can already hold a room.

CCSP Eligibility Requirements

ISC2 requires candidates to have 5 years of cumulative paid work experience in IT, including:

The 6 CCSP Domains

The 2022 CCSP Exam Outline organizes cloud security into six domains:

1. Cloud Concepts, Architecture and Design (17%) — CSP models, cloud reference architecture, security design principles, trusted cloud services

• Cloud security experience level (more experience = fewer hours)
• CISSP background (significant domain overlap reduces study time)
• Comfort with legal and governance topics (Domain 6 often surprises technical candidates)

CCSP vs Other Certifications

If you’re choosing between CCSP and CISSP: CCSP is the better first choice for cloud security specialists; CISSP is better for broad security leadership. Many professionals eventually hold both.

CCSP holders command significant salary premiums in cloud security roles:

• United States: $120,000–$180,000+ median; senior architect roles $160,000–$220,000+
• Japan: ¥8M–¥15M for senior cloud security professionals — growing rapidly as enterprises accelerate cloud adoption
• ROI: At a 15% salary premium on an $80,000 base, CCSP pays for itself within the first month of the next job

In Japan specifically, the CCSP holder population is still relatively small compared to the US and UK. That scarcity creates opportunity — cloud security governance skills are in demand and under-supplied.

The 2026 Exam: What’s New

ISC2 regularly updates the exam to reflect evolving cloud threats. Key areas gaining weight in recent years:

The CCSP is a serious certification that requires serious preparation. It’s also one of the most recognized cloud security credentials globally, and in 2026, with cloud security skills acutely scarce, it remains one of the better career investments in the field.
